Arrival:
Mainz University is easy to reach by car, plane and train. It is served by many different public bus lines and has several stops, as the university campus is large. Within the city, there is public transportation – bus and streetcar – which can be used to reach almost all destinations within Mainz and Wiesbaden.
Arrival by public transportation
Die Stadt Mainz hat einen Hauptbahnhof und weitere Bahnhöfe. Information on the timetable can be found on the Deutsche Bahn website. The best way to get to Mainz University is to get off at the main train station and take the bus to the university from there.
The stops are called:
- University (Forum, main pedestrian access from the city center)
- Friedrich-von-Pfeiffer-Weg (Philosophicum)
- Botanischer Garten (Sports Institute)
- Ackermannweg (main gate of the university)
- Backhaushohl (Sports Institute)
- Staudinger Weg (canteen)
- Duesbergweg (Medicine)
- Koblenzer Straße
Campus line 78 runs across the university grounds and stops at Johannes-von-Müller-Weg, Colonel-Kleinmann-Weg and Hanns-Dieter-Hüsch-Weg after the university stop.
A so-called “short-distance” ticket is sufficient for the journey from the main station to the university; it is cheaper than the normal fare and is available from the bus driver or from the ticket machine. Further information is also available online from the Mainzer Verkehrsgesellschaft.
Arrival by car
If you are coming from the west
(i.e. from Bonn/Cologne), follow the A60 highway via the “Autobahn-Dreieck Mainz” in the direction of Darmstadt, leave the highway at the “Mainz-Finthen” exit, follow the “Saarstraße/Innenstadt” sign straight on through the “Europaplatz” traffic circle until you reach the “Universität” exit.
If you are coming from the east
(i.e. from the direction of Würzburg/Darmstadt), follow the A60 freeway via the “Autobahn-Dreieck Rüsselsheim” or from the A63 via the “Autobahnkreuz Mainz” to the A60 to Bingen, leave the freeway at the “Mainz-Finthen” exit, follow the sign “Saarstraße/Innenstadt” straight on through the “Europaplatz” traffic circle until you reach the “Universität” exit.
If you are coming from the north
(i.e. from Kassel), follow the A66 freeway and change to the A643 towards Mainz at the “Schiersteiner Kreuz” interchange, follow the freeway to the “Autobahn-Dreieck Mainz” interchange, where you change to the A60 towards Darmstadt. Leave the highway at the exit “Mainz-Finthen”, follow the sign “Saarstraße/Innenstadt” straight ahead through the traffic circle “Europaplatz” until you reach the exit “Universität”.Parking is available at the soccer stadium, which is about 200 m north of the main pedestrian entrance, in addition to the spaces indicated on the adjacent map.
You can enter the campus via the main gate. Persons without a purchased entry permit may pass through the electronically secured entrance once a week free of charge.
Arrival by plane
